Planning My Business

It has been a while since my last post so I wanted to give some updates. While I quit my job in July of 2009 it has been a struggle to get things going as fast or as far as i would have liked. My first ever real online business, “Simple Ecovers” is going well. I haven’t made a killing or anything like that but am getting steady work that keeps me busy. This is great and bad all at the same time.

It’s great because it gets me instant cash any time I finish someone elses work and it’s bad because I’m working one to one. This means i do a project once and get paid for that project once. In order to make it and survive online I need to do some kind of work once and get paid multiple times for it.

Ideas that come to mind since I do graphics is making specific graphics for salespages and then offering them in some sort of graphics pack. I began to build my list by offering free graphics on my site and have over 250 subscribers just to that.

I know list building is crucial to making it online so I’m going to focus more on list building for 2010. I know many of you get into information overload so it seems very difficult to multitask or do work in many areas when your time is limited. If I find myself in this situation being home full time, then I can imagine most of you working full time jobs and then immediately getting frustrated when you get online and see the many things you have to do.

I’ve talked on planning before but I feel it most important because if I don’t know where I’m going, then I don’t know which set of directions to follow. I will plan out a very simple business system and then explain it all here on my blog soon. No more missing months of posts because I have forgotten who got me where I am in the first place. Those people include yourself.

So it’s time to give back and lay my planning out on the table for all of you to see and please feel free to add things that help you or let me know of those things that slow you down. The power of many will outweigh me trying to do all of this on my own. When I have my simple plan, you will all see it along with the results.

I’ve had a great Christmas and New Years, have had some great success online, have lost some dear family members and friends, and have learned to love a little bit more. I am reminded of why I’m doing this in the first place which is to live to love my family and provide well for them. Money is not as important as people so begin your online ventures by helping somebody and see what happens. That is after all how I started.

I’ve watched several of my fellow online students create great success for themselves and make it a point to try to break down their business models.  It’s by doing this that I have learned the best software and scripts to use and how to make most things automated to successfully run an business.  It sure helps if you have the skills to implement it quickly like these people but I think what made them the most successful was dedication and persistence.

These people never gave up and didn’t lose track of their goals.  By planning first and setting goals, they were given the correct directions to make it to their destination.  I hope with some dedications and persistance of my own, that I can come out with a product that people want and need plus as an end result make some spending money.  It’s hard to focus on making a living online when you wonder where the next rent payment is coming from.

Plan, plan, and plan some more.  Set goals for yourself and keep track of how well you accomplish them.  If you need to plan more time to complete goals then do so but never stop.  I promise that if you don’t stop then you will succeed.  If anything you will make some great friends online like I have and learn a ton.  Now I have to go and implement what I’ve learned and if all goes well I can share it with you.  Until next time…

Hi Michael –

I totally know what you meant when you mentioned getting overwhelmed with all the things to do when you sit down at the computer. I have a full time job that stresses me out quite a bit. I have a hard time not bringing it home. Then I get home and think about ALL the things I need to work on with my online business and then my mind shuts off. I don’t know where to start.

I just did my goals and broke them down into smaller pieces. Then I planned a certain number of specific things that I’m going to do each day for the week. That way I can focus on just those and not think about everything else.

Seems to be helping, but I’m only one day into it. LOL Planning and focus definitely are key, aren’t they?

Take Care – Heidi

Heidi, you are going to succeed way faster than most simply because you are off on the right track. By breaking down your plan, you are able to have small workable tasks in front of you. Just for taking action right off the bat, I want to give you a free ecover. My gift to you for being an action taker. Hats off!

Hello Michael

I am one of AJ Students, and we had a blast in Vegas.

I cant believe how many of AJ students have given the jobs up

As you said on your blog post planning is the key for a successful business and this as help me so much.

planning your month and week is so important and not just surfing the website and waisting time.

Dean
ps will be in touch soon for some ebook graphic’s

Hey Dean,

Glad you got to go to Vegas. I had planned on going but wasn’t able and I know I missed out on a great trip not to mention getting to know some new friends.

I truly believe planning is the key followed by simple action. As long as those two are moving forward, success is almost guaranteed. Keep up the good work bro!

I look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Hi Michael

Like yourself, I am one of those who follow Alex Jeffreys. And I managed to make it to Vegas to meet Alex and many of the others I had heard about and read about on the forum. It was quite an experience.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about planning. Its so easy for me to let the plans for today be derailed, and one of my goals for this yr is to have at least some time each day that is uninterrupted.

When you wrote ‘simple action’, I thought about doing ‘simple actions’ – breaking tasks down till there is no more overwhelm and something is achieved. Its amazing how one small achievement can change the course of a week, too!

Best regards
Anthony

Hey Anthony,

Would have loved to been there in Vegas with you all. I’m glad you are taking action buddy and you will no doubt see results. If you break down big tasks into the basic small ones, you will see it’s easier to focus.

I’m in the middle of creating a PLR site for a recurring membership site and as a whole seems like daunting work but when broken down, I can see the whole picture. I will keep everyone up to date on how I do it.

Best of luck to ya and look forward to your success online.

Hi Michael,
Stopped by to see what’s going on and your blog is fabulous!! Love the graphics you do!
Anyway…I have a plan this year and a great guy to keep me on track. I signed up for John Thornhills Masterclass and am loving it! Talk about a plan!!
You know I was in Dean Hollands first Starting with Marketing class and learned a ton, but felt like I needed a little more info. Still learning how to keep the blog up and running in good order!!
Glad you are doing some planning, I would like to see what you come up with. I think you are such an internet success story and the work you do is awesome!
Hope to be where you are someday…not with the graphics, but with my own home based biz that I actually enjoy!!

Take care and God Bless!!

Lisa~

Hey Lisa,

I have no doubt you will succeed if you just stick with it. Just don’t keep signing up for more and more mentoring without first applying what you were taught. I found that if I stop surfing the web I actually get more accomplished in my business.

Most people just surf the web and play around but when it comes to running an online business I’m sure it’s hard for many to shut off the “surfing” mode and get down to work.

Take great notes in Johns class and then turn out your own product done in your own unique way. Best of luck to you Lisa and see you at the top!

HI Michael,
No surfin for me unless i am looking at y’alls blogs! There are 3 or 4 I visit regularly and yours is one of them!
John will be my last mentoring class because I know with his help and mentoring (and a ton of help from Paula Brett) I won’t need anything else!! Oh yes, maybe some graphics from my fav graphic man!! =) I will be glad when I learn how to use them!

Hope all is well and have an amazing day!!
Talk to you soon!

Lisa~

Thanks Lisa for the comments. I’m glad you have limited yourself on the amount of marketing you are willing to listen too online. It’s also great that you picked my blog as one source for help and inspiration.

As I run my online businesses, I have finally dedicated my blog to the ins and outs of what I’m doing along with the successes and failures to help you all with. Look out for more great posts and let us all know how much you’ve learned.

Thanks,

Michael
