List Building Strategies That Work

In this post I would like to let you know of some of the ways I have seen people building their lists of opt in subscribers.  Over the years I have filled in many opt in forms and paid close attention to how my name was acquired.

In order to get a free report or newsletter is was required that I fill in an opt in form.  This method gets lots of sign ups because of the fact that free material was offered.  It is very important that the free material is of great value to the prospect.

After purchasing a product, I have been required to fill in an opt in form in order to complete my order.  It is important to place this form after the customer has already paid for the product.  They have no other choice but to fill in the form to get their product.  They may leave if asked to fill in a form before payment is made.

Membership sites often reflect high value of the content contained and people are more willing to give their names and email addresses to be part of a membership site.  Free membership sites attract many people and you will get a lot of sign ups but it will take a while for them to start buying.  Again, content must be valuable.  You can sell products on the inside.

Reflecting scarcity in your product like telling your prospects that there are only 100 copies will encourage them to sign up.  Also, when prospects are rushed because of scarcity, they will likely take a close look at your product rather quickly.  Again make sure value is high.

Making your offer time sensitive is another strategy marketers use.  I have opted into many forms because what I wanted was going to expire soon or the price was going to change.  You can find different software scripts to make this available on your web pages.

Submitting your free products to giveaway events is also very successful.  A giveaway event is one in which people can go and receive many free products at once.  To get the product, each participant must fill in your opt in form to receive the free product.  You will get a lot of prospects because of the value of many products together in one place.

Simply blogging or commenting on other peoples posts will get people interested in what you have to say.  Comment in a way that is not like an advertisement but like you are genuinely interested in helping alleviate pain or provide pleasure.  If you can tap into these two remedies you will get a following that will sign up for what you can provide them.

A squeeze page is effective in getting people to sign up to your list.  If you provide a preview of what the prospect can expect, you will provide enough interest and desire for them to sign up just to find out more.  Adding audio or video can stir up just the right emotions so that people just have to know the rest of the story.  This is very effective.

There are more ways to get people to sign up to your list but these are the main strategies that are most effective.  Try different things and remember to test, test, and test some more.  One thing for certain is if you don’t try to capture names and email addresses of prospects for your business, you will be leaving tons of cash on the table.
