Most people have that burning question of “How To Make Money Online” but never really think it’s possible. Alex has a great way of breaking everything down into bite sized chunks. “Sometimes large chunks” LOL

Now this is pretty confusing because so many information product owners flat out sell their marketing materials as “make money online” programs or systems.  No wonder millions of people get frustrated when trying to figure out the difference between the two.

Internet marketing is simply the process by which you present an offer to a potential buyer.  Internet marketing is also the advertising process and of course if it all works out correctly, in the end you make money online.

It stands to make sense that more people are looking for the term “Make Money Online” than people who are looking for the term “How To Market Online” or “How To Do Internet Marketing”  and if you’ve been online looking for ways to make money for a while like I have, you will finally come to realize that you need to educate yourself about “internet marketing” in order to “make money online”.

Now how do you make money online?  Well, you have to somehow place yourself between a product that someone wants and the person who wants it.  You can make money online by many different ways.

Here are several in no particular order.

1. Sell a product that people want or need.  ( Physical product or digital download )
2. Sell a service that people want or need.  ( Programming, SEO, Graphic design, Consulting, etc )
3. Sell someone else’s product as an affiliate.  ( You get a commission or part of the sale )
4. Sell someone else’s service as an affiliate.  ( You get a commission or part of the sale )
5. Open a store on Ebay. ( Your own products or find a drop shipper )
6. Open an online store and find a drop shipper to fill your store with products to sell.
7. Anything else your mind can imagine.

The great thing about making money online is that there are literally hundreds of ways to market to a potential customer and the more ways you learn about and implement, the more money and success you stand to achieve.  Here are some examples of marketing online.

• Affiliate Marketing…

I mention this one first because you don’t need your own product or service to make money online.  You can make a commission or a portion of the sales by signing up as an affiliate to any product or service that you wish to promote.  There are literally billions of products and services that you can become an affiliate for and then promote them to get a piece of the profits.  You will get a special link that tracks the sales for you and lets the product owner know how much they owe you too.

• Article Marketing…

You can write articles about your product or service and then have a link in the article that takes people to an order form to purchase or to another website to learn more.  You would submit these articles to article directories, blogs and other places so potential customers can find you.

• Pay Per Click Marketing…

You can sign up to pay for ads at all the major search engines and try your hand at driving massive amounts of traffic to your website or offer.  Be careful though as it will cost you money for every visitor who clicks on your ads.  You must make sure you earn more from your traffic than it costs you to get them to your site.

• Banner Ad Marketing…

You can have graphics made in the size of banner ads that you can pay to place on websites that are in the same niche or interest of your product or service.  People can click on the banner ad and be taken to your website.  These work well as I click on banners often.

• Email Marketing…

You can use an autoresponder service such as Aweber or Get Response to capture the names and emails of potential customers.  Then you can email them over and over until they eventually purchase something or get off  your list.

• Blog Marketing…

You can have your own blog website where you have content about your product or service.  You can offer great free content that makes people want to visit your blog and you can use the other marketing methods above to drive traffic to your products.

• Video Marketing…

You can create videos about your topic of choice and upload it to places like YouTube and Viddler.  People who search online for topics can find your video and get great information.  You can leave a link in your video description leading back to your website or product offer.

• Forum Marketing…

You can become a member of a forum related to your product or service and help answer questions and become an authority on certain topics.  You can place a link at the bottom of each forum post leading people to your  website
or offer.

• Tele Marketing…

You can call people and offer surveys or poll them about a particular topic and then make an offer for your product or service.

• Social Media Marketing…

Many people and businesses use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube and other social sites to build what’s called “social proof” around their products and services.  Potential customers are more likely to respond when they see “live” people making comments and talking about things in a non sales environment.

• SEO Marketing…

This is Search Engine Optimization Marketing.  You spend quite a bit of time targeting certain keywords and phrases related to your product or service so that the major search engines will rank you high for those keywords and place your website at the top of their listings which will generate the most exposure for you all without having to spend money on advertising.

So in reality, what do all of the internet marketing tactics above do?  They are all geared for one thing and one thing only.  Generating as much traffic to your website or offer as you can.

Now everything I mentioned above works very well with many different business models.  I see each and every day many people give up and fail at trying to achieve success by making money online.  Information overload is probably the leading cause of this simply because most people realize that there is a lot to learn and more importantly, a lot “to do” in order to get everything all set up and running.

By understanding the difference between “Making Money Online” and “Internet Marketing”, you can begin to properly educate yourself and start taking real simple steps instead of continuing to look for that magic money system that doesn’t take any effort.

If it existed then we all would be making the big bucks online right?

The truth is that there are more successful business models or systems than I can count.  And whether you have a great business or a crappy one, if you use any or all of the “Internet Marketing” strategies above, you will get traffic to your website period.

The problem I had was that I kept jumping from system to system, beginning new programs but never really completing any of them because I had found something new and something bigger that promised better results.

I kept looking for that “magic button” that is so desirable because I wanted it easy.  I wanted results now.

I want you to know that there are systems that “once set up” run on autopilot.  They look like magic buttons but in fact a lot of work went into setting them up first.

If you follow me I’m going to teach you how to set one up.  I’m going to share with you my journey through this process and invite you to watch what I do and then do what I do in order to take the “making money online” dream to a reality.

I will show you the steps I take and give you the education you need along the way.  Then I will show you how to take that education and duplicate what I do.  Once you begin to grow your business and see results, then you will have the experience to run your own successful online business.

Believe me when I tell you there are a lot of people in this industry that will try to sell you a bill of goods, only to leave you still scratching your head and wondering what to do next.

I wanted to start out the new year by seeing what cool new money making products were online so I was fascinated by the sales page of a product called Auto Traffic Monopoly.  Right off the bat I’m going to warn against buying it and let you all know just what it’s all about in my view.

There is a great sales video and salesletter that offers a great software that will pull in unlimited free traffic for any website or blog.  They promise any newbie with no skills can use it, (that’s the first red flag) and that it didn’t take much work once set up.

You have to sign up for several free blog sites and other social media sites and input all of your user names and passwords into the software.  You then upload the 7 unique posts, ( the site claims there are no articles to write although you may think a “post” is an article) and then the stupid software will create a link wheel and then link back to your website or affiliate product.

I was so curious about this product that I purchased all four, ( yes I said four ) upsells for the following…

1. $37 for the original Auto Traffic Monopoly software ( Hurry only 157 copies left! ) Liar!
2. $197 for Andrew Wallaces “Private Coaching Program”  (An autoresponder sends a PLR video to you each week)
3. $47 A MONTH for having a website of your own set up for you. ( This pulls in the newbies )
4. $77 for Profit Banker Traffic Software ( Another junkie PLR software )
5. $47 A MONTH for a profitable copy and paste campaign every week to snowball your affiliate efforts

So you end up paying $311 plus another $94 of recurring payments to a very crappy program that scams you out of your hard earned money.  A sad thing is that many reputable marketers are promoting this and have great bonuses for purchasing through them.  I’m sorry to those people who buy because it will ruin many good marketers reputations.

Now I know there are a lot of people online who don’t care and will do anything to take peoples money so beware of anything related to Auto Traffic Monopoly.  You will be sorely disappointed.

I personally know two great guys that drive huge amounts of real traffic and they are Adam Spiel and Dean Holland.  They created Turbo Traffic System and I’ve personally gone through it and it does work.  Adam is a SEO expert and Dean has coached newbies online so the two are a great team.  You can watch a cool video by checking out their Turbo Traffic System now.

The site originally had simple Paypal buttons and just a few options to purchase graphics from me but now over a year later, I’m glad to see it grow to where I can finally add the affiliate program.  Now I’ve always hated websites that advertised right up front about affiliate programs because people would use my affiliate link to go to a site and then see that it offered an affiliate program.  Then my prospect simply signs up to be an affiliate themselves and then purchases the product with their own affiliate link

Simple Ecovers makes me a full time living online but it’s time to switch gears a little in my journey as it’s time to do more than just graphics for people on the internet.  I’ve learned so much about mindset, customer service, planning, list building, product creation and more.  Needless to say my upcoming success will be dependent upon the continuing service I’ve always provided.

Now I haven’t been perfect in all I’ve done online and I’ve dropped the ball in many areas as my focus can become sometimes distracted by life and everything else around me.  But who hasn’t?  I haven’t met one person online or in person who didn’t have struggles and who didn’t have the occasional failure.  It’s in the midst of failure that most successes come from and I’m going to be no different.

As I’m building my list of subscribers I’m going to be trying a few different tactics in marketing that a lot of people don’t do.  Now I know this may go against the norm but I’m determined to be successful by helping as many people as I can.  As a matter of fact I actually sent an email to my entire list last week asking people to unsubscribe.  Crazy you may think but it came from really wanting people to be on my list for reasons other than to  just receive affiliate offers from me.

Now making money online by sending affiliate offers via email to a large list will make you cash but whose lives did you change in the process?  There really is no way to know since all you do is forward people to the next online fad just to make some quick cash.  I know I could do it as I have done it before but for some reason I don’t feel great about it.  I want to really give value to the people on my list but yet I have no products of my own to sell.  ( Not yet anyways. )

Easy solution now that I think of it.  I’ve been online for several years and know how to do many things.  I have no doubt that people are looking for many of the same things that took me hours and weeks to learn.  I am going to begin making content on various things that I know will help my subscribers and for the first time will be placing that content for free on my blog here and then simply send my subscribers here to devour the content.

I will engage them with questions and offer surveys to find out what they want and need.  The more I engage my readers and give value, the money will come.  I don’t want some quick sale but I want a customer.  Even if I share a video on how blogging has helped me, I won’t feel bad recommending them to someone who knows more about blogging like Mathew Wolfe.  You see, recommending someone to make a quick sale might work but then your visitor will have no reason to come back to you.

I want people to always want to come back and see what I have to say so by giving value, I will be able to do that.  I can’t please everybody but I can feel good about the type of internet marketer  I want to be.  So I offer you this to ponder.  What do you want to learn online?  What is it that you think you need in order to progress forward?  I know a lot of the gurus will tell you to outsource the work but from experience, I’ve seen the majority of people online want to actually “learn” how to do things on their own.

Most people don’t have the extra money and the resources to continually outsource like the gurus tell you so I want to create free content that will help you to progress online.  Please, I ask again..  What do you need?  Think about it and let me know.  I await your comments as this is genuine from me to you.  You could either continue to open email after email from marketer after marketer or you can begin to settle down and learn something of value.  I offer this because I’ve been caught up for years in the same day after day routine of reading countless emails only to find myself with less money and lost time.

 For a little bit of background I was in a dead end job being a delivery driver for a top food service industry and was killing myself every day just to make ends meet.  I knew money could be made online and had spent years dabbling around trying this program and that program only to end up more in debt and more frustrated.  So in March of last year I paid 500 for a mentoring course from Alex Jeffreys.

He gave great content and told it like it was.  He broke down how he built his six figure business and told us what we needed to do in order to do the same.  List Building was at the top of the “to do” assignments as it’s a huge key to success online.  As I messed around on my own home computer doing graphics, Alex asked the students to help one another in the areas where we had talents so I began giving away graphics and ecovers to students in our forum.

Word of mouth spread among the students and before long I began to get emails asking how much for a graphic or how much for a header graphic or ecover graphic.  So I threw up a quick website with some payment buttons and before I knew it, I had told my job where to go. LOL

I quit in July of 2009 not because I was making a killing online but because I was bringing in a consistent amount of money by providing a service online that people needed.  I stopped thinking about how to make the millions I would like and focused on how to bring in the next 37 to 97 dollar payment.  That’s when things took off.  By offering graphics, I could make money and work when I wanted.  I simply traded my job for a lifestyle.

Now like I said, I don’t make a killing but I do make money.  And that in itself has beaten that 97 to 99 percent who don’t make a dime.  Now I’ve taken my business as far as I can by doing one to one work.  I can make a couple of thousand a month by doing graphics for customers but why stop there?  After all, I know some marketing and know that I can leverage my time and money.

So during the last year I’ve been working one on one with customers doing their graphics and have lost my vision of the number one thing I should have been focused on which was building a list.  Now I’ve joined another coaching course gearing me toward building my list and once again, this course has a student forum.  Since I had made money from the last forum I was in, I knew what I had to do.

So right off the bat I was asked to be a forum moderator which helped me to place myself in front of the students.  I not only moderate for the forum owners but I began to give service to the students for free.  Two things happen when I do this.  The first is the students see me as an authority in the topics I answer for and the second is since I give so much in the forum, many students will no doubt use me for my services in the future.

This is called forum marketing because I’m able to help others with their issues and at the same time be able to make money later on because I’ve already built a relationship of trust with them.  They also feel the need to reciprocate by doing something in return for the services which I give them for free in the forum.  There is a quote that says that if you help enough people get what they want then you will eventually get what you want.  I truly believe that since I’m seeing it yet again in another forum.

So if I were to tell you one thing it would be this.  Stop trying to make a million dollars online and try to just make one.  Why?  Because when you know how to make one then you can duplicate it over and over again.  Think big but start small.  Don’t get it right, just get it going.  I could give you many great quotes but they will all mean nothing if you don’t take action.  For years I learned and learned and made nothing.  Now I act and money shows up in my Paypal account almost daily.

In the forum I’m in now I’m not even doing graphic work but instead have been uploading websites and configuring Aweber accounts.  I barely learned how to do this myself over a year ago and now have people begging me and offering me cash to do it for them.  For now I don’t take their money but later on after I create another website and set up payment buttons, the people will come.

Why?  Because I stepped in between students and their mentors.  I’ve listened to their questions and concerns and I know their wants and needs.  More importantly, I’ve been where they are and give them words of encouragement.  And in the end, they will gladly pay me to relieve them of the burdens they face.  It will be a win win for everyone involved.  I know you have marketing skills.  Whether it’s graphics, hosting, autoresponder, writing, or even socializing, you have a skill others don’t.

Give that talent away and people will come asking you “how much”  Think about it and give it a try.  I’m proof it works and I know you can do it to.  It’s already been two weeks in this forum I’m in about list building and already people are asking me “how much” and are begging me to take away the stress of the things I find simple.  Many people think I’m dumb for wasting so much time doing a lot of work for free and most of that comes from my family.  But they don’t know.

They don’t know that by offering my services for free now will gain me huge returns in the future.  Forum marketing is not sneaky or wrong.  It’s a great way to offer your service and then patiently wait till people are banging down your virtual doors with their wallets open asking “How Much!”  People want to pay me money, they want to get personal mentoring from me, they want to know how I “know so much.” 

It’s not what you know that makes you money, it’s how you use your knowledge to help others.  Once you get that, then money will start to flow.  I’m beginning to see that I can take my knowledge and show someone how to upload a website and how to configure their Aweber account.  What if I recorded what I did?  Would others pay to see the videos?  Would others pay to see how easy it is for me to do it?  Sure they would. 

What about all the praise and comments people make about me in the forums?  Those would make great testimonials to add to a website that would help boost my credibility and authority.  Add a few payment buttons and there you have it.  A money making website ready to go complete with a service to offer and praise from people you’ve helped.  So many people are looking for the quick buck without doing any work for it but I believe in hard work.

I believe in being honest to myself and to the people who I work for.  To me, I’m a different kind of marketer.  One that cares about the success of others regardless of how much they know.  I want to motivate and encourage.  And if they still don’t get what I’m teaching or saying, I don’t want their money.  I know I can’t be all things to all people so I must know my limits.  But I must also know my worth.  Words to ponder don’t you agree?

So now I give you some homework.  First make a list of your strengths online and of your weaknesses.  Then I want you to take some time to learn and build upon your weaknesses and get help and answers with them.  I also want you to be confident with your strengths and begin to help others who don’t have them.  Be their guru.  You don’t have to know everything online to command attention and be a help.

After a while of helping, make notes of the comments people leave you and also make notes on the problems people face online.  Try to come up with solutions and you will have your next product.  Product creation is for another time and another post.  For now I just want you to see the potential you have to actually make money from first giving a service.  I’ve already told you I’ve sucked at building my list and have joined a course to learn more.  But in the process I became a mini guru to those students who have less knowledge than me about uploading sites and setting up autoresponders.

Now I send visitors to my link and when they sign up, they are automatically on my list.  Of course they have to double opt in to be fully on there but at least they signed up.  Now if just 10 people do what I did and the same thing continues, by the time I reach the number 1 spot on other peoples list building site, I could potentially have thousands if not tens of thousands of email addresses.

In just the time it took me to write this post my subscribers increased by another 6 subscribers.  This truly is going VIRAL.  The best part is that these people are on my list so every email sent is actually sent by me with my list name.  Unlike other list building sites like ListDotCom.com which shows ListDotCom as the sender of the email instead of your own list name.

Only time will tell whether this Viral List Building free site will amass me thousands but for spending only 10 minutes of your time and getting it all for FREE, this is truly a no brainer.  Never mind the $97 upsell as it only gains you extra exposure and doesn’t gain the affiliate any extra cash.  All cash goes straight to Russel Brunson but who cares as the purpose is to grow my list very very fast which it seems to be doing.

 It’s great because it gets me instant cash any time I finish someone elses work and it’s bad because I’m working one to one. This means i do a project once and get paid for that project once. In order to make it and survive online I need to do some kind of work once and get paid multiple times for it.

Ideas that come to mind since I do graphics is making specific graphics for salespages and then offering them in some sort of graphics pack. I began to build my list by offering free graphics on my site and have over 250 subscribers just to that.

I know list building is crucial to making it online so I’m going to focus more on list building for 2010. I know many of you get into information overload so it seems very difficult to multitask or do work in many areas when your time is limited. If I find myself in this situation being home full time, then I can imagine most of you working full time jobs and then immediately getting frustrated when you get online and see the many things you have to do.

I’ve talked on planning before but I feel it most important because if I don’t know where I’m going, then I don’t know which set of directions to follow. I will plan out a very simple business system and then explain it all here on my blog soon. No more missing months of posts because I have forgotten who got me where I am in the first place. Those people include yourself.

So it’s time to give back and lay my planning out on the table for all of you to see and please feel free to add things that help you or let me know of those things that slow you down. The power of many will outweigh me trying to do all of this on my own. When I have my simple plan, you will all see it along with the results.

I’ve had a great Christmas and New Years, have had some great success online, have lost some dear family members and friends, and have learned to love a little bit more. I am reminded of why I’m doing this in the first place which is to live to love my family and provide well for them. Money is not as important as people so begin your online ventures by helping somebody and see what happens. That is after all how I started.

I’ve watched several of my fellow online students create great success for themselves and make it a point to try to break down their business models.  It’s by doing this that I have learned the best software and scripts to use and how to make most things automated to successfully run an business.  It sure helps if you have the skills to implement it quickly like these people but I think what made them the most successful was dedication and persistence.

These people never gave up and didn’t lose track of their goals.  By planning first and setting goals, they were given the correct directions to make it to their destination.  I hope with some dedications and persistance of my own, that I can come out with a product that people want and need plus as an end result make some spending money.  It’s hard to focus on making a living online when you wonder where the next rent payment is coming from.

Plan, plan, and plan some more.  Set goals for yourself and keep track of how well you accomplish them.  If you need to plan more time to complete goals then do so but never stop.  I promise that if you don’t stop then you will succeed.  If anything you will make some great friends online like I have and learn a ton.  Now I have to go and implement what I’ve learned and if all goes well I can share it with you.  Until next time…
